Consultancy
Startups
Are you building a game adjacent product or service? Are you unsure how to pitch your tech to the industry–or to players? Unsure how to recruit game developers?
I was the tech lead for the apps team at CTRL-Labs where we built EMG based controllers, before it was acquired in 2019. I’ve also provided consulting services to startups like Nuwa Inc building game adjacent experiences. At my own studio I build and ship games in custom game engines, and open source much of my engine work.
If you want to talk game adjacent tech, shoot me an email.
Publishers & Studios
Need help figuring out how to build a team for your game or game adjacent experience? Pivoting genres and having trouble figuring out the ins and outs of the space you’re entering?
I’ve helped multiple small companies with hiring, and I keep tabs on all notable indie release on Steam. If it’s indie, been out for more than two weeks, and hit popular upcoming, then I’ve looked at it. Understanding genre is necessary for survival as an indie.
Speaking Engagements
Putting together a conference or educational retreat? I’ve given talks on games, game engines, and the business of indie games at conferences like Software You Can Love and Handmade Seattle:
- It’s Not Survivorship Bias - On Successful Software Endeavors
- It’s Not About the Technology - Game Engines are Art Tools
- It’s Not About the API - Fast, Flexible, and Simple Rendering in Vulkan
I also taught grad and undergrad students at UCSC and CSUMB to make both games and game engines, and sometimes speak at private events.
Send me the info on your event–let’s sort something out!
