Mason Remaley is an independent game developer, and a board member on the Zig Software Foundation. He shipped his last game Way of Rhea in 2024.

In the past, Mason taught both graduate and undergraduate students at UCSC and CSUMB to make games and game engines. Before that, he worked for startups and tech companies including Google and Microsoft.

Games by Mason projects do not make any use of generative AI. Here’s a quote from Mason on the open source technology behind Now You’re Cooking!:

I’m building Now You’re Cooking! in a custom open source game engine, written in a new low level programming language named Zig. Most independent games are developed in closed source proprietary game engines like Unity, which is crazy to me. When there are bugs those engines, game developers aren’t allowed to help fix them!
